Katia Engel

Katia Engel is an interdisciplinary artist working in between choreography, sound and sculpted objects. She is based in Berlin and Yogyakarta, Indonesia. A constant in her art, which ranges from performative formats to multimedia works of video, sculpture and photography, is her ongoing reflection on human perception and body memory in relation to the more-than-human world.

In recent years, Katia Engel’s artistic practice has undergone a transition, shifting towards a focus on the sonic dimension. She then established Points of Listening, a framework through which she explores with her collaborators on specific sonic landscapes and its sounding creatures.

Her works have been performed and exhibited among others at: Hong Kong Art Festival, Intl. Singapore Film Festival, Indonesian Dance Festival, ArtJog Yogyakarta (ID), Dumbo Art Center New York (US), Desingel Art Campus (BE), Neues Kunstforum Köln (DE), Babylon Mitte Berlin (DE), Art Center Nairs (CH), Kuan Du Art Festival (TWN), Museo de Arte El Salvador (San Salvador).

Katia holds a certification as Movement Analyst (Laban-Bartenieff Institute of Movement Studies, New York) and is a Registered Somatic Movement Educator (RSME) and member of LAFT (Association of Independent Performing Artists Berlin).
